Over the past several weeks, Ocean City Magic has noticed many key word searches for surfing, surf shops and body boarding in Ocean City. This is the reason that we began posting the Ocean City Surfing Beach Location daily blog. Each day we post the location for the surfing beaches in Ocean City so the local surfers know exactly where to go. We found that out of the 250,000 people coming to our News Blog monthly, many were searching for surfing topics so we wanted to post the locations each day so the surfers and people coming to Ocean City would know exactly where they could surf.
This daily post has become an instant hit among the locals, verifiable by the amount of shares and recommends we get from the news blog for this daily post. This alone shows that there is a HUGE interest in surfing and body boarding in Ocean City.
Today, we were made aware that the Town of Ocean City has outlawed stand up body boards. This has come to a shock to many in the surfing industry within Ocean City. Ocean City is heavily populated with local surfers, body boarders and kids that enjoy using stand up body boards. Stand up body boarding is not only fun for the young kids and adults, but it is a great form of exercise. Stand up body boarding uses many muscles throughout the body and keeps the young kids healthy. Nowadays, many kids would rather sit in front of a TV then go out and exercise. Having our luxurious beach gives our young kids the ability to get out and enjoy themselves, while getting a great form of exercise. Being able to stand up body board also gives the young kids something to do other then hanging on the streets and getting into trouble.
That being said, I am confident that something can be done to correct this and allow locals and vacationers the ability to enjoy stand up body boarding, as people have for many years. I encourage everyone to come to the next City Council meeting, Monday July 16, and let the council members know how you feel about this ruling. This is important that you let your voice be heard and you let your council members know exactly how you feel about this.
On Lee at Malibu’s Facebook page, council members Doug Cymek, Mary Knight and Joe Hall all have said that they knew nothing of this and it was NOT passed on their level. With that being said, I would hope that they could all work together and make a change to allow stand up body boarding as in the past.
